A note about how I view my expertise…

I’m an expert on my two dogs, although Bernie and Lizzie might argue that my expert status waivers from time-to-time.

Bernie was my first dog ever. Year one with him taught me a great deal, especially all the things D-O-G that I did not know. When I started this blog, we had just brought Lizzie home. I wanted an outlet to share what I was learning about dogs because I figured there were other first-time dog moms and dads out there struggling with dog food choices, training ideas & inspiration, and how to enrich their dog’s life. And I do love a good research project!

If there’s one definitive thing that I’ve learned about dogs, it’s that dogs need a customized group of professionals who will act as advocates for them. Veterinarians. Dog Trainers. Animal Behavior Consultants. Groomers. Dog Walkers. Just to name a few. Each dog will have a different set of people, but dogs need and deserve the support of more than just their human parents.

These canine professionals didn’t choose these careers for the big bucks. They’re in their niche because they want to advise you on how to help your dog live his best life. It’s one thing to read a dog blog for ideas, reassurance, inspiration. You can ask questions and gather information. I link to reputable sources in my blog posts, so readers can follow the bread crumbs as they pursue their dog research project. But please recognize that I am not an expert on your dog.

If your dog is struggling with health or behavior issues, or anything else, then I highly recommend finding the right dog professional to visit. Their services are worth much more than they’re charging.

I have heard from some readers that they struggled to find a dog trainer. If this is you, then please check out the 46-page book Fetching the Perfect Dog Trainer: Getting the Best for You and Your Dog by Katenna Jones. It’s a quick read that will guide you on where to look for dog trainers near you.
